Everything You Need to Know About Attending the 2025 Australian GP

Formula 1 makes a welcome return to Melbourne for the first race of the 2025 season. Here’s everything you need to know ahead of attending the 2025 Australian Grand Prix on March 14-16

A record-breaking crowd of 452,000 fans attended the 2024 Australian Grand Prix across four days, making it one of the best attended races of the season. The race was won by Carlos Sainz for Ferrari after Max Verstappen suffered a rare retirement in the early stages of the race. A new track layout, introduced in 2022, has improved the racing spectacle in Australia, and the organizers do a great job getting tens of thousands of fans in and out of the circuit each day, largely via free trams.

In 2025, the Australian Grand Prix will be the first race of the new season. The race was the traditional season-opener between 1996 and 2019, hosting all but two of the first races of the year during that time, but has not been the first race of the season since the ill-fated 2020 Australian Grand Prix, which was cancelled due to the onset of the covid pandemic.

After signing a recent contract extension, the Australian Grand Prix will remain on the F1 calendar until at least 2037.

2025 Australian Grand Prix Tickets Selling Fast

Grandstand and Park Pass tickets for the 2025 Australian Grand Prix went on sale to the general public on October 9, 2024 and sold out very quickly. Hospitality suites are also largely sold out. Previous attendees of the race have also had the opportunity to purchase tickets via Access24. Tokens (now sold out) were priced at $199 AUD and gave access to the pre-sale, plus other perks such as Thursday access and the option to purchase a pit lane walk. For 2025, the organizers of the Australian Grand Prix and their ticket partner, Ticketmaster, are employing the controversial practice of dynamic pricing, with prices rising from base levels by up to 55%.

Finding Accommodation in Melbourne

There’s plenty of accommodation to be found in Australia’s second city, but prices can be high and options limited on race weekend. Albert Park is strategically located between the CBD and St Kilda beach, easily accessible via free trams on race weekend. Full House Expected

The 2025 Australian Grand Prix will mark the 29^th time that F1 has raced at Albert Park. The event has always had a healthy attendance figure and 2025 could be another record-breaking year. Prior to its hiatus in 2020, the Australian Grand Prix was usually one of the top three best-attended races of the year.

Attendances have reached record levels since the race returned after the covid pandemic in 2022. In 2023, the Australian Grand Prix was the second best-attended race of the whole season, behind only the British Grand Prix at Silverstone. Attendance rose again slightly to 452,000 fans over four days at the 2024 Australian Grand Prix.

How Much Will I Spend on a Trip to the 2025 Australian Grand Prix?

With four days full of on-track action and relatively cheap tickets, the Australian Grand Prix was one of the best value for money races on the 2024 calendar. Weekend General Admission tickets – or Park Passes – currently rank as the ninth cheapest of any race, while 4-day grandstand seats currently rank as the 11th cheapest of the year. Trackside at Albert Park

2025 will be F1’s fourth race on a revised layout of the Albert Park circuit. Changes to the venue were made between 2019 and 2022 in a bid to improve the race spectacle, creating better chances to overtake and cutting the lap time by around 5 seconds.

The five new grandstands which were added for the 2022 race have improved viewing opportunities for fans. The largest of the additional grandstands is on the revamped high-speed section of track between Turns 8 and 9. 

In 2019, General Admission tickets for the Australian Grand Prix were renamed ‘Park Passes’. The name may have changed, but the tickets still offer the same great value for fans. If you have a Park Pass we advise getting to the circuit early to secure the best viewing spots!

Formula 2, Formula 3 & Supercars Also On Track

One of the great things about attending the Australian Grand Prix has always been the jam-packed support race line-up, which has more support race action over four days than any other event on the calendar. The ever-popular Supercars Championship is expected to return to the support bill, along with the Porsche Carrera Cup.

After making their debut in 2023, Formula 1’s feeder series Formula 2 and Formula 3 will return to Albert Park in 2025. Both Formula 2 and Formula 3 will race twice at Albert Park over the 2025 Australian Grand Prix, with Sprint Races on Saturday and Feature Races on Sunday. The addition of these races supercharges an already packed weekend of wheel-to-wheel action!

The 2025 Australian Grand Prix will also include historic demonstration runs on each day of the race weekend, aerial displays and a range of concerts. Off Track at the 2025 Australian Grand Prix

Away from the race track, there’s always lots going on during Grand Prix week in Melbourne. Among the highlights are two exclusive motorsport dinners, fan activations and street parties. Melbourne is known as the sporting capital of the world and it certainly lives up to its name on 2025 Australian Grand Prix weekend with AFL matches and horse racing taking place in the surrounding area. 

Elsewhere, the Melbourne Food & Wine Festival 2025 (March 14-23) and metal music festival Knotfest both coincide with race weekend and there are a number of concerts taking place across the city.
