The 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix set a new record high attendance for the Hungaroring, with weekend attendance up 7,000 on the 2023 figure.
For the second season in a row, weekend attendance at the Hungarian Grand Prix surpassed 300,000. Last year, the race saw a new attendance record, with 303,000 fans attending the Hungaroring over the 4-day race weekend. According to Formula 1, the figure grew by 7,000 at the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix, to 310,000.
Attendances at the Hungarian Grand Prix have been on an upward trajectory over the past decade, with weekend attendance almost doubling since 2014 when the 3-day figure stood at under 170,000.
Piastri Takes Maiden Win at the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix
Fans trackside were witness to Oscar Piastri’s maiden Formula 1 victory, with him leading home a 1-2 result for McLaren. The two papaya cars finished ahead of Lewis Hamilton, who secured his 200th podium finish.
Piastri became Australia’s fifth different Formula 1 race winner as well as the sixth driver to secure his maiden Grand Prix win in Hungary, after Damon Hill, Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button, Heikki Kovalainen and Esteban Ocon.
The 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix weekend also featured action-packed races in the Formula 2, Formula 3 and Porsche Supercup support series.
2024 F1 Attendances Pass 3 Million
The 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix is the fourth best-attended race weekend of the Formula 1 season to date, behind the British Grand Prix (480,000), the Australian Grand Prix (452,000) and the Canadian Grand Prix (350,000).
Formula 1’s total confirmed attendance figures in 2024 have now passed the 3 million mark. Although attendances for the 2024 Saudi Arabian and Monaco Grands Prix have not yet been revealed, average attendance across the other 11 races so far this year sits at just under 320,000.
Attendances have increased at the majority of races so far in the 2024 season – the two exceptions being at the British Grand Prix, where attendance was at the same level as in 2023, and the Austrian Grand Prix, where total attendance fell by 2,000 compared to last year.
F1 is currently on course to match its record total attendance figure of over 6 million from 2023 and is likely to exceed the figure, given that there are two more races in 2024 (in Shanghai and Imola) compared to last season.
New Look for the Hungarian Grand Prix in 2025
Having been ever-present on the Formula 1 calendar since 1986, the Hungarian Grand Prix currently holds a contract which will see it remain on the schedule until at least 2032.
The race will have a slightly different look next year, with the main grandstand and the pit complex due to be demolished in the coming days and rebuilt ahead of the 2025 Hungarian Grand Prix, which is set to take place on August 1-3.
