Formula 1 to Host Las Vegas Grand Prix Launch Party

Formula 1 will visit Las Vegas in November 2022, one year ahead of the inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix, to hold a launch party celebrating the new race. The Las Vegas Grand Prix launch party will take place on the Las Vegas Strip on November 5.

Ahead of Formula 1’s inaugural Las Vegas Grand Prix, which will take place in November 2023, the sport is to host a free fan festival this November. To celebrate the upcoming race, F1 will take over part of the famous Las Vegas Strip on November 5 to host a free event featuring fan activities, drone shows and driver appearances.

Formula 1 will return to Las Vegas in 2023 having last raced in Nevada in 1982. The all-new Las Vegas street circuit is spread out around the Las Vegas Strip, taking in many of Sin City’s famous landmarks. The race will take place at night on Saturday November 18 next year.

When is the Las Vegas Grand Prix launch party?

As Las Vegas revs up for F1’s return, fans can get a taste of what is to come with a free launch party at Caesars Palace on November 5. The event will run from 11:00 to 23:00, with 12 hours of entertainment. Taking place in the gap between the 2022 Mexico City Grand Prix and the 2022 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, a number of current teams and drivers – including 7-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton – will be in attendance.

The event is in a similar vein to the F1 Fan Festivals which were held prior to the coronavirus pandemic. Formula 1 previously hosted fan festivals in Miami in 2018 and Chicago and Los Angeles in 2019. The sport also hosted a similar ‘F1 Live’ event in London, which took place ahead of the 2017 British Grand Prix weekend.

What’s happening at the Las Vegas Grand Prix launch party?

There are a range of activities on offer at the Las Vegas Grand Prix launch party. You can play against fellow F1 fans on the official Formula 1 video game on state of the art Esports racing simulators, or try your hand as a mechanic and attempt to beat the clock in a Formula 1 pit stop challenge. There’ll also be the opportunity to have your photo taken with Formula 1 cars and trophies in the Fan Zone.

The headline event will be show runs by Oracle Red Bull Racing and Mercedes-AMG Petronas, taking place on a mini track on Las Vegas Boulevard. The display will run between Caesars Palace and Planet Hollywood. It’s yet to be confirmed which drivers will be taking part in the demonstrations – though event organisers have confirmed that Lewis Hamilton, George Russell, Sergio Perez and Alex Albon will be making an appearance at the event.

Following a spectacular drone show and driver appearances on the main stage, the official afterparty will take place at OMNIA Nightclub, where Swedish DJ Alesso will perform. Furthermore, the first 500 fans who attend the launch party will be entered into a draw to win tickets to a VIP celebration on the same evening featuring a performance by Nevada rock band The Killers.

Las Vegas on the global sporting calendar

Speaking about the launch event, Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali talked about his hopes for the Las Vegas Grand Prix to become a regular fixture on the global sporting calendar:

We are thrilled to welcome our fans to the launch of the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix. The Las Vegas Grand Prix is going to become a regular fixture in the city and on the global sporting calendar, so it is important to have local fans both celebrated and celebrating with us from the very start. This launch is a small but exciting taste of things to come over the next year when all the Formula 1 teams hit The Strip.”

The 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix is scheduled to take place as the penultimate round of Formula 1’s record-breaking 2023 calendar. Tickets for the race will be available in the coming weeks.
