Formula 1 has announced the six Grands Prix at which Sprint events will take place in 2025. Shanghai, Miami, Spa-Francorchamps, Austin, São Paulo and Lusail are all set to host additional Sprint races next year.
Formula 1 has unveiled its sprint race calendar for the 2025 season. The 2025 Formula 1 season will feature 24 rounds, with all 24 races from 2024 remaining on the schedule next year. The 2025 calendar was unveiled in April – with Formula 1 now adding six F1 Sprint events to the schedule.
The F1 Sprint sees Formula 1’s 20 drivers contest in an additional 30-minute Saturday race. A change in Sprint weekend format for 2024 means that Sprint Qualifying now takes place on Friday, before the Sprint itself is held on Saturday morning. Grand Prix qualifying follows on Saturday afternoon, before the Grand Prix takes place as usual on Sunday.

The 2025 F1 Sprint calendar is very similar to the 2024 schedule, the only difference being that the Red Bull Ring will not host a Sprint event in 2025. It is instead being replaced with a sprint race at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps. It means that 2025 will be the first season in which the Austrian Grand Prix has not hosted the F1 Sprint format since 2021.
For the second season in a row, the Chinese Grand Prix will host the opening F1 Sprint event of the year in 2025. Shanghai International Circuit’s 2024 Sprint – the first F1 racing action at the venue in five years – was won by Max Verstappen. In 2025, the Chinese Grand Prix takes place as the second round of the season, on March 21-23.
Miami International Autodrome will host the second F1 Sprint of 2025 on May 3. Like Shanghai, it’s the second consecutive year in which the Miami Grand Prix will host a Sprint event. The 2024 Sprint in Florida was won by Red Bull’s Max Verstappen – though Lando Norris clinched the win in Sunday’s Grand Prix.
The F1 Sprint format returns to Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in 2025. The Belgian Grand Prix last hosted a Sprint event in 2023, where an exciting 11-lap Saturday race saw Max Verstappen win in wet conditions, just ahead of McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Alpine’s Pierre Gasly.
The final three Sprint events in 2025 will take place as part of Formula 1’s run of flyaway events towards the end of the season. Circuit of The Americas – host of the United States Grand Prix – will host a Sprint event for the third year in succession on October 14, before Interlagos hosts a Saturday race as part of the São Paulo Grand Prix weekend for the fifth year running. Interlagos is the only track to host the Sprint format in every season since it was first introduced.
The final Sprint of the 2025 season takes place at Lusail Circuit as part of the Qatar Grand Prix weekend on 28-30 November. It will be the third time the Lusail track has hosted the Sprint format, with Max Verstappen memorably securing his third title as a result of a podium finish in the Sprint event at the 2023 Qatar Grand Prix.
Speaking about the F1 Sprint schedule for 2025, Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali noted the role of the sprint events in the sport’s upcoming 75th anniversary season:
“The Sprint has been a great success for Formula 1, bringing all our fans more action and racing on the track. We are seeing the proof of this in our audience data, fan attendance on Fridays and from the promoters and partners. As we prepare to celebrate our 75th anniversary in 2025 we will always honour our incredible history, but we must always be looking ahead, innovating, and improving to deliver the best for our growing and diverse fanbase. The Sprint is a great example of bringing new elements to our sport in a way that is respectful of the Championship, and I want to thank the six venues that will host the Sprint in 2025 and look forward to those incredible events throughout the season.”
It is expected that the F1 Sprint will continue to follow the same format in 2025, with eight championship points awarded to the winner and all of the top eight finishers being awarded points.
