300,000 Attend 2025 Austrian Grand Prix, Contract Extended to 2041

The Austrian Grand Prix will remain on the Formula 1 calendar until at least 2041 having signed a new contract over the 2025 race weekend, which 300,000 spectators attended.

Race organisers at the Red Bull Ring have agreed a new long-term deal to keep the Austrian Grand Prix on the Formula 1 calendar for the foreseeable future. Having already been signed up to continue hosting the Austrian Grand Prix until at least 2030, the latest contract extends the deal by another 11 years, through to 2041.

The Austrian Grand Prix now has the equal-longest contract of any event on the Formula 1 calendar, tying with the Miami Grand Prix which extended its contract through to 2041 in May. Speaking about the new deal for the Red Bull Ring, Formula 1 CEO Stefano Domenicali said:

Austria has long been an incredibly special race for Formula 1 so it’s fantastic we have secured the long-term future of a Grand Prix so deeply rooted in the sport’s history. The vision and passion of Dietrich Mateschitz gave the race the investment and attention that allowed it to return as an incredible event on the Formula 1 calendar. Each year, returning to the stunning Styrian mountains is a highlight – an experience that evokes incredible emotion among our drivers, teams, and fans alike, creating an atmosphere unlike any other. I want to extend my sincere thanks to Mark Mateschitz and Thomas Überall and his team for their unwavering dedication to excellence, and to our incredible Austrian fanbase, whose enthusiasm and loyalty continue to elevate this iconic race.”

The Austrian Grand Prix has been held in Spielberg since 1970, when the venue now known as the Red Bull Ring was known as the Österreichring. F1 has raced there 38 times since, returning after an 11-year absence. In 2020 and 2021, due to the coronavirus pandemic, the track hosted two races per season.

There are four circuits which have contracts up for renewal after 2026: Circuit of The Americas, Baku City Circuit, Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya and Zandvoort, the latter having already confirmed it will depart the schedule after next year’s race.

It has been confirmed that the Belgian Grand Prix will appear on the schedule only every other year from 2027 onwards. With no rotating partner yet announced – and most circuits signed up on annual deals beyond 2027 – it is becoming increasingly likely that a new event will join the calendar in 2028, with Thailand and a race on the African continent being the most likely new additions.

300,000 Attend 2025 Austrian Grand Prix Weekend

The 2025 Austrian Grand Prix weekend had a total attendance of 300,000. For the second year in a row, attendance at the Red Bull Ring is slightly down on the previous year. Having had a weekend attendance of 304,000 in 2023, it fell to 302,000 in 2024 and is down a further 2,000 in 2025. It is the first race this season to post an attendance figure lower than in 2024.

The Austrian Grand Prix slots in as the fourth best attended race weekend of the 2025 season so far, behind Australia (465,000), Canada (352,000) and Spain (300,300). Last year, the event ranked as the 10th best-attended of the 24 races held across the 2024 season.

Next weekend’s British Grand Prix is likely to top the list of top-attended races again in 2025, having attracted 480,000 spectators over the 4-day weekend in each of the last two years. On Saturday, Silverstone announced that race day grandstand seats had sold out, with limited numbers of general admission and hospitality tickets remaining.

Tickets for the 2026 Austrian Grand Prix – which will take place on June 26-28 – will go on sale on Monday.
