306,000 Attend the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix Weekend

Formula 1 has confirmed a weekend attendance of 306,000 at the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix – a decline of 9,000 on the 2023 figure.

306,000 Formula 1 fans attended Las Vegas Strip Circuit over the three days of the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend. Although ticket sales were not as immediate as in the inaugural year, race day was declared a sell-out event during the Grand Prix weekend.

The 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix attendance figure is down on the 2023 figure. In 2023, 315,000 fans were in attendance over the Grand Prix weekend. Last year, the event ran for four days, with a special star-studded Opening Ceremony taking place on the Wednesday before the race. The event did not take place this year, which helps to explain the difference between the two numbers.

It’s likely that the number of people in Las Vegas to see the race was higher than the reported figure, as this figure only counts official tickets sold by Formula 1 and its partners. Some fans without tickets found inventive ways of getting a glimpse of the race, including viewing on an escalator near the Fashion Show shopping mall.

The general trend in Formula 1 is for attendance figures to decline in the second year that an event is on the Formula 1 calendar. However, the last new addition to the calendar before Las Vegas – in Miami – bucked that trend. Attendance at the Miami Grand Prix grew by around 27,000 between its first appearance on the schedule in 2022 and 2023.

2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix is the 8th Top-Attended Race in 2024

The Las Vegas Grand Prix currently ranks as the eighth best-attended race of the 2024 Formula 1 season, though an official attendance figure for the United States Grand Prix – which was almost certainly higher than the Las Vegas figure – has not yet been announced.

Last year, the Las Vegas Grand Prix attracted a weekend attendance of 315,000 and ranked as the seventh best attended race of the season. Both the Hungarian and Italian Grands Prix had weekend figures which eclipsed the Las Vegas figure in 2024, unlike in 2023.

2025 is the last year of the Las Vegas Grand Prix’s initial contract to remain on the Formula 1 calendar. However, a government vote in early 2023 means that the sport has permission to continue racing on the Las Vegas Strip until at least 2032.

Verstappen Crowned World Champion in Vegas

While George Russell led home Mercedes’ first 1-2 finish in over two years at the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix, Max Verstappen was crowned World Champion for a fourth consecutive season. Verstappen is the third driver to be crowned champion in Las Vegas. Nelson Piquet and Keke Rosberg both won the title at the Caesars Palace Grand Prix in 1981 and 1982. All three drivers secured their championship wins with fifth place finishes in the Vegas race.

In addition to the on-track F1 action, the 2024 Las Vegas Grand Prix featured performances from the likes of OneRepublic, Alesso and Ludacris, while the national anthem was performed by Boyz II Men. For the first time there was also a support race, with Ferrari Challenge racing on Las Vegas Strip Circuit on the same weekend as F1. A number of special events were held across the city as Las Vegas welcomed the sport for its second visit.

There are now just two stops remaining on the 2024 Formula 1 calendar. The Qatar Grand Prix – which will feature the final Sprint event of the year – takes place next weekend. It will be followed one week later by the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Tickets remain available for both races.
